For this pristine Riesling we selected a secluded vineyard on the rocky eastern edge of Watervale. In the early 1900’s it was the home of the ‘Watervale Defence Rifle Club’……… “Friday 27th June 1902 representing the successful Watervale team against Port Broughton and Brinkworth where the eminent Rev S.C.Mugford, ‘crack shot’ John Ward, A.Graham, G.Hunter, O.Castine, C.Smith and future Quelltaler Winery manager, Emil Sobels. The rifle of choice for the majority of participants was the legendary 303”…….
The bouquet displays lemon, lime and Jonathon apple notes. The palate exhibits kiwi fruit, intense lime and lemongrass with hints of mineral and elderberry, which are beautifully enhanced by crisp natural acidity. The Very cool vintage has provided us with a wine of great length and varietal purity.
Pirramimma was founded by Alexander Campbell Johnston in 1892 and has been owned and operated by the Johnston family ever since. It’s one of Australia’s oldest wineries to still be in family control. The family philosophy is to produce wines from estate-grown grapes, ensuring the highest quality standards are met and the unique regional characters are displayed.
Pirramimma has been awarded 5-Star Winery by James Halliday at Australian Wine Companion, it won Best Australian Producer (the fourth time in six years) in year 2015, 2016, 2017 and currently in 2020, with 14 Gold Medals and 12 Silver Medals.
