Clos de la Maréchale is the southernmost Premier Cru vineyard in the Cote de Nuits region of Burgundy. This climat covers land on the slope just south of the village of Premeaux-Prissey, although it falls under the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation. The red wines made from Pinot Noir here are relatively full bodied, with a rustic, spicy character. A tiny portion of the vineyard is also given over to Chardonnay.
The dominant red wine grape of Burgundy, Pinot Noir is now adopted and adored in wine regions all over the world. The variety's elusive charm has carried it to all manner of vineyards around the world and as of 2016, it was the sixth most-planted grape variety.
Tasting notes: "They are wines that always need 5 to 10 years of ageing before expressing their typically floral character : “The bouquet of the 1er crus of Premeaux is remarkable and persistent : one finds the aroma of iris mingled with raspberries. Even more so, that of white lilac”."
