Fattoria Nittardi is an historic Tuscan estate specializing in the wines of Chianti Classico and Maremma Toscana. The original Nittardi Estate was a defensive vantage point between the rival provinces of Siena and Florence in the 12th Century and a fortified tower named Nectar Dei, or the "Nectar of the God", was built on the site in 1183. Italian Renaissance artist Michelangelo became the proprietor of the estate in the 16th Century, and while painting the Sistine Chapel, asked his nephew for "two casks of wine rather than eight shirts" from the estate. Michelangelo also asked his nephew to send wine as a "genuine gift to the Pope Julius II". This tradition is still upheld today, with Fattoria Nittardi always giving its first bottles of Nectar Dei to the Pope. In 1982, the estate was purchased by Peter Femfert and Stefania Canali, who made extensive renovations to the winery and vineyards.
