Producing arguably the archetypal Left Bank red wine, Saint-Julien might not boast a first growth but this small appellation is highly-regarded for the consistent quality of its red wines.
Red Bordeaux Blends are known for their powerful structure and deep flavors. Dark fruits and berries such as plum and blackcurrant are commonly used to describe the flavors of red Bordeaux, although there is an unlimited range of terms that have been ascribed to them. Tannins tend to be relatively high in these wines, giving them a firm structure.
Tasting note: "Medium to deep ruby red color with dark pigmentation. Meaty aromas overlay mulberry fruit & notes of cedar & graphite on the nose. The dark fruit on the palate is dominated by flavors of coffee, cedar & graphite. The mid-palate has good concentration & fair weight, but the tannins are hard & angular. There is reasonable acidity, but it doesn't quite lift the fruit. Alcohol is balanced & the finish is classically cedary, it lasts quite well."
