The Winery: Real Companhia Velha, Portugal's oldest and most iconic wine company, is celebrating its 258th anniversary this year and has never ceased to be active in the Port wine sector. History has left us with incredible stories and a glorious past. For the future, we want to continue to maintain the high standard of quality of our wines and believe that the company's rigorous and visionary philosophy will make even more history.

The discovery of Port was purely accidental: in the 16th century, English merchants with roots in the city of Porto supplied the wine trade with raw materials from vineyards planted in the Douro Valley. Before shipping, they would add wine brandy to the oak barrels to ensure the preservation of the wine. The successful combination of wine, oak barrels and brandy resulted in fortified wines with a great taste, and Port was born.
