Shafer began life in 1972 when John Shafer arrived in Napa with the hope of growing his own wine. He bought a plot of land in the Stags Leap hills, and terraced and replanted the steep vineyards. A Superstar in the Stags Leap District within Napa Valley, the winery has a distinct family-run appeal with wines that are crafted to emphasize quality and regional character. Shafer is one of the leading boutique wineries in America, with ratings from Wine Spectator and Robert Parker of between 88-100 points.
