- Red Wine
Barolo is a traditional village in Piedmont, northwest Italy. The hills of the surrounding area have long been famous for producing fragrant, tannic red wines which take its name. These are made entirely from the Nebbiolo grape variety.
The pride of Piedmont, Nebbiolo is the backbone of the wines of Barolo and Barbaresco (as well as host of smaller, but no less prized, appellations like Nizza and Valtellina). Not a good traveller, international producers have yet to dispel the notion that Nebbiolo can only thrive in northwestern Italy.
