This dense Shiraz saturates the palate with extract and concentration as well as elevated tannin. It is amazing one winery could produce two wines that are so totally opposite. - WA

The Winery

Kay Brothers Amery Vineyards and Winery is a South Australia-based wine producer and the oldest winery in McLaren Vale still owned by its founding family. The winery makes predominantly red wine and is especially known for its Shiraz, but also makes fortified and sparkling wines. The winery was established in 1890 by the brothers Herbert and Frederick Kay. The first vines brought to the property were Shiraz, Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon with Shiraz being the first to be planted. The two brothers also had roles in the Australian wine industry outside of their own vineyards: Herbert was chairman on the Australian Wine Board from 1933 until 1945, and Frederick was a member of the Phylloxera Board.
