Napa Valley, an hour's drive north of San Francisco, California, is the most famous and prestigious wine region of the New World. The classic "Napa Cab", the archetypal Napa Valley wine, is a rich, oak-aged red with aromas of blackcurrant, boysenberry, liquorice, vanilla and smoky, bittersweet chocolate.
Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines usually demonstrate a handful of common character traits (see below for some caveats to this). The typical features are deep color, high tannin content, moderate acidity and aromas of black currant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood. The wines tend to range from medium-bodied to full-bodied.
Tasting note: "The nose is fruity, elegant and offers power and a fine grain. It reveals notes of ripe cassis, Boysen berry and small notes of strawberry associated with fine touches of cherry, cornflower and very fine hints of small blue berries as well as fine hints of spices. The mouth is fruity, well-balanced and offers a juicy/acidulous frame, a good definition, gourmandize as well as juiciness. In the mouth this wine expresses notes of fleshy/ripe cassis, black cherry and small notes of blackberry associated with small touches of cherry, wild strawberry as well as hints of liquorice, violet as well as subtle hints of mocha and vanilla. Good persistence." - 94/100, VertdeVin
