Rioja Alta is one of three sub-regions of Spain's celebrated Rioja wine region. It occupies the westernmost portion of the region, with the majority of its vineyards lying south of the Ebro River.
Bodegas Sierra Cantabria was founded by Guillermo Eguren since the 1870’s. It is the family's original winery, and comprises a collection of their most classic style Rioja wines. They try to provide somewhat more modernity, leaving the wood in the background and making the fruit and the intensity stand out. Today, the fifth generation of the Eguren family directs all aspects of the winemaking process. The family still prides themselves as viticulturists first and all of the grapes are estate grown. In 2011, Eguren family’s wines are placed at the top of Spanish Wine Guide Gourmets. <>
