Garnet color with medium intensity and red notes in the center of the wine. The 2013 Rioja Reserva displays aromas of berries and licorice well complemented with spices, vanilla and toasted flavors coming from the French and American oak aging. The palate is long and smooth with a characteristic end of light freshness. It is a youthful and interesting wine, in addition to persistent.
Vina Real is a Spanish winery and offshoot brand of the Rioja producer Compania Vinicola del Norte Espana (CVNE). It is best known for Tempranillo-dominant red blends, as well as a rose and barrel-aged white wine from Viura. It emerged in 1920 as a single-vineyard bottling from vines in Elciego, though the exact location of the original parcel of vines has since been forgotten. It has its own winery independent of CVNE, as is the case with CVNE's two other brands, Imperial and Contino. The Vina Real winery itself consists of three buildings with the main structure built from red cedar in the likeness of a fermenting vat.
