The 2009 Perez Pascuas Gran Seleccion Gran Reserva is a super selection from their oldest Tempranillo vineyards over 80 years of age, which has a special liveliness and a thread of acidity that I didn't find in the Vina Pedrosa Gran Reserva. It's an electric Ribera, with plenty of stuffing and balance to make very old bones. -WA
The Perez Pascuas brothers have been producing classical Ribera del Duero wines staying faithful to their style irrespective of fashion or trends since 1980. The wines clearly reflect place, vintage and the house-style of early harvest and austere, long-lived reds. They work an impressive 135 hectares of vineyards and produce around 550,000 bottles of wine per year, raised in 3,000 oak barrels in their cellars in the village of Pedrosa de Duero.
