The 2016 Vosne-Romanwe 1er Cru Les Chaumes, which includes around 20% to 25% whole bunch fruit, has a very elegant, restrained bouquet that just lets the blackberry and raspberry fruit flow from the glass, the oak neatly integrated and not imposing. The palate is medium-bodied with a saline entry. Again, I appreciate the purity of fruit, the finesse and the charm of this Vosne-Romanee. There is plenty of crunchy red berry fruit on the finish and a pinch of spice. Super bon, as they say in France. -WA
Georges Noellat is a Burgundian domaine based in Vosne-Romanee, known for its elegant Pinot Noir wines. The estate was taken over from George's wife (and his grandmother) by 20 year old Maxime Scheurlin, who debuted with the excellent 2010 vintage. Until then much of the vintage was sold in bulk to Louis Jadot and Joseph Drouhin. There are just 5.5 hectares (13.6 acres) of vines, but they are sited in some of the best vineyards in Vosne-Romanee and Nuits-Saint-Georges. The holdings include parcels in the Echezaux and Grands Echezaux Grand Cru.
