Description

Clos des Epeneaux is one of Pommard's most highly regarded Premier Cru vineyards, located at the base of the Côte d'Or escarpment in the Côte de Beaune region of Burgundy. It is a walled vineyard, nestled between the Grands Epenots and Petits Epenots climats, and like its neighbors it is planted entirely to Pinot Noir. Clos des Epeneaux Premier Cru wines are full bodied and complex with elegant, earthy characters and the ability to age for many years.

As a thin-skinned grape variety, Pinot Noir generally has a moderate to high acidity, a low level of phenolic compounds, low to moderate levels of soft tannins and is generally paler in color than most other red wines.

Red wines range from a pale pinkish red through to the darker tones which an interior designer might recognize as Burgundy. Color and body do not necessarily intensify as price and/or quality rises, and even the deepest examples tend to have an appealing translucence and minimal opacity in the wine's core. See below for rosé.

Tasting note: "Nice elegant nose, complete, complex, a bit floral and offers certain deepness. It reveals notes of blackcurrant, cornflower, and more slightly – mocha associated with touches of pulpy blue berries, bright cherry as well as slight hints of camphor, gray pepper, a very discreet hint almost smoky and with an imperceptible hint of vanilla. The palate is fruity and offers juiciness, a mineral structure, elegance, gourmandize, freshness, acidity and a fine crunch. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of juicy/pulpy blackberry, bright blackcurrant, and more slightly – hints of cornflower associated with touches of bright raspberry, hints of violet, pepper as well as slight hints of camphor, and cardamom, with a subtle hint of toasted almond and liquorice. A wine all in gourmandize, delicacy and which offers acidity/juiciness. Congratulation !"
