The 2015 Caronne Saint Gemme has a pleasant, estuarine-scented bouquet. Think about swigging a decent Cabernet out of mudflats just after the tide has gone out, the tang of salt in the air. The palate is medium-bodied and balanced, but the oak needs to be better integrated and leaves a bit too much powdered cocoa on the finish. -WA
Chateau Caronne Ste Gemme is a Bordeaux estate just south of Saint-Julien in the Haut-Medoc. Its grand vin is a classic Bordeaux blend, and was classified as a Cru Bourgeois Superieur of Haut-Medoc in 1932 and Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in 1966. The chateau takes its name from the Gaelic word carona, meaning "little spring". The estate has an extensive history dating back to the mid 17th Century. On top of Chateau Caronne Ste Gemme, there are two other wines in the portfolio: Landot and Les Viviers de Caronne.
